Little Acorns News 14.03.25

14th March 2025

We have loved our last few days with the ducklings this week, particularly watching them taking their morning swim!

It has been another busy week, starting with Outdoor Learning and ending with the STEM fair. In between times, we have enjoyed a trip to the post box, lots of sensory fun in the tuff trays, dancing in PE and many, many stories.

We have noticed just in the last few weeks how much more independent the children are becoming as their confidence grows. Even our youngest members are now clearing their own plates at lunch, making sure to put everything in the right trays!

Just a small plea as we move towards the end of term, please could all school library books be returned before the holidays. We would really appreciate your help with this.

Congratulations!

Well done to Arthur who received a Kindness Award from Mrs McClure this week for the encouragement he showed to his classmates during the Race for Life. We are very proud of you!

Lewis also created this fantastic picture of the solar system which he was able to tell his friends about with amazing detail. Well done Lewis!

Our quote of the week

After we had read a book about plastic in the oceans this week, Ottilie commented ‘All rivers connect to the sea.’. Well done Ottilie!

When Hugo mentioned to Zara that he had not ridden on a horse (his favourite animal), Zara replied that she had not ridden on a rabbit!

Book of the week

This week we have been reading Duck in the truck by Jez Alborough. It has lots of wonderful rhyming phrases and we even introduced the concept of alliteration!

What the children enjoyed most though was retelling the story using props in the classroom. They took getting all the details right very seriously and we have repeated the activity several times…! If you ask your little one to tell you the story you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised by how much they can recount!

Special delivery

Following a conversation about post boxes with one of the children recently, we decided to take on a very special project this week. Your little ones have been working hard to write and post an invitation which should be arriving at your doors very soon!

They loved walking down the road with their letters in their hands and popping them in the box. We hope you enjoy receiving them just as much!

Outdoor Learning

At Outdoor Learning this week the Little Acorns demonstrated beautifully that sometimes the simplest things really are the best! We discovered a huge fallen tree trunk which the children climbed over, crawled across, slid down and hid, in and around. They had so much fun, while also working on their gross motor skills, balance and confidence. This combined with the warm spring sunshine made it a magical afternoon.

Something to look forward to

On Thursday 20th March we will be celebrating 'La Francophonie' day. If your little one would like to make a flag to add to our school bunting, please see details in the bulletin.

We are very excited about joining the rest of the school in celebrating Red Nose Day on Friday 21st March. Please see the bulletin for details.

Reminders

*Please could all children have a named water bottle in school for snack and lunchtimes.

*If your Little Acorn comes to school on a Monday, please ensure they have wellies and suitable clothing for Outdoor Learning. We aim to get out whatever the weather!
