This week in PE, the children have been working on throwing and catching. They started off with bibs, which move nice and slowly, and progressed up to soft balls and then volleyballs over the course of the week. We were so impressed with how much their skills are developing already with some children able to roll two balls at the same time, and there is always endless enthusiasm!

Resilience Awards

For those of you who are new to Little Acorns, we wanted to let you know about Resilience Awards. They are given to children who have worked hard to develop a new skill, which amongst our age group is usually related to developing independence and self-care, for example putting on their coats and shoes or using a knife and fork. If there is a new skill your child has mastered at home please do let us know or send us a picture, and we will do the rest!

Our traditional tale this week was The Three Little Pigs, and the children have had so much fun experimenting with different building materials to create their own structures, including in the garden with the large building blocks. It has also been wonderful to experiment with storytelling, a crucial pre reading and comprehension skill.  The children have retold the story using puppets, with some very animated performances, particularly by Arthur playing the wolf!

Our quote of the week

When we were at Outdoor Learning on Monday, Ottilie picked up a beautiful collection of Autumn leaves and said ‘I have a family of leaves!’. Lovely, Ottilie!

Perfect patterns

In maths this week we have been looking at patterns, both following a simple pattern, and encouraging the children to come up with one of their own using vegetable printing. Activities like this help with forming logical connections and understanding mathematical thinking and reasoning.

Something to look forward to...

Next week we will be starting on some Christmas crafts – no judgement please, we love Christmas in Little Acorns!

Reminders

*Cold weather – the weather is due to get much colder next week, please feel free to send in hats and gloves for your little ones, particularly for Outdoor Learning. Solefield branded hats are available from Horncastles.

*Show and tell – We find that the children love to talk to their friends about something that is special to them, not to mention it being excellent for their communication and language development. For this reason, if possible, please could your child bring a favourite toy, book or similar to talk to the class about once a week. If it is easier, please email a photo and we can put it on the interactive whiteboard.

*Next week our letter of the week will be ‘t’ and our number will be 5.
