On Thursday 10th October, we welcomed Jennifer from Kapla Club UK who lead a whole school construction day for every child to take part in. Students worked individually, in small groups and as a class to create different elements of the final construction. Using just simple wooden blocks, pupils learnt how to stack them together in order to create stable and robust yet intricate structures.
Year 1 and Year 2 began the day, making a snake and an octopus, one at either end of the hall.
Reception and Little Acorns then added villages they made, including extra trees, lakes and roads.
Next, Year 3 laid the foundations for what would end up being a long and detailed railway track.
The railway track was further developed by Years 4 and 5 who added the trains on top, as well as making two huge giraffes!
Year 6 worked together, making an impressive palace boasting a lake at the front that had a fountain.
Finally, Year 7 and Year 8 constructed five towers each of which required chairs for the boys to stand on as they grew higher and higher.
Once the building phase had been completed, students returned to the hall to admire their jaw-dropping build. It was great to see how each child had contributed in their own way to a huge team effort.
Then came the moment Year 7 and 8 had been waiting for… the demolition! In under 5 seconds they managed to raze everything to the ground.
Please watch Mr Coston’s video of the whole day and see what you can spot!
