Little Acorns News 04.10.24

4th October 2024

A big welcome to Zara who has joined Little Acorns after turning three on Monday. We are so happy that you are here, and all the other children have been so kind and welcoming. We have begun eating lunch in the dining hall with the rest of Pre-Prep this week. The Little Acorns have really risen to the challenge and enjoyed being a little bit closer to the playground to make the most of breaktime once they have all finished!

Book of the week

This week we have been reading ‘Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn’ by Kenard Pak. It is a beautifully illustrated story about a young girl’s journey through the forest and the town. It has fitted in perfectly with our outdoor learning sessions where we have been noticing the changes in nature as the seasons begin to turn.

Our quote of the week

This week comes from Ottilie, ‘We never, ever get poorly because we eat an apple every day!’. Well done Ottilie.

Harvest fun!

We have had lots of fun preparing for the Harvest Assembly this week. The children made the most gorgeous harvest crowns which they wore for their performance. We have incorporated a lot of sensory and pre-writing activities into the classroom and we are really beginning to see the benefit in the children’s cutting skills.

The children did amazingly, standing up in front of the whole school to play along to ‘Harvest Samba’. A special well done to Callum who welcomed everyone to the occasion.

Back in the classroom, we have done lots of shape and number work this week. The children have been categorising, matching and learning to subitise, recognising a quantity without needing to count the objects.

Something to look forward to...

We are excited about playing in our new Vet’s Surgery role play. If you have any poorly cuddly animals at home, please feel free to send them in for a check up!

Reminders

*The children will have their school photos taken on Tuesday 8th October. If your child is not normally in on that day, you are welcome to pop in so that they don’t miss out!

*We are adding lots more posts to the Little Acorns Tapestry account so please remember to keep checking back!

*Please could all children have a water bottle in school for snack and lunchtimes.

*If your Little Acorn comes to school on a Monday, please ensure they have wellies and suitable warm clothing for Outdoor Learning. We aim to get out whatever the weather!

A sweet moment when all the children were completely immersed in exploring and building the marble run. A great example of independent but also collaborative play, so important for social development.
