Miss Finlay

13th September 2024

We have had a very busy first full week in Little Acorns! All the children are doing so well and it is lovely to see their characters beginning to come out and new friendships starting to form. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Ottilie for receiving our first Little Acorns kindness award of the year! Ottilie very sweetly offered to help a friend with the zip on their coat without being asked. We are so proud of you Ottilie!

Book of the week

This week to support our topic ‘All about me’ we have been reading ‘My Mum and Dad make me laugh’ by Nick Sharratt. It has been a great starting point for lots of conversations about how even within the same family, we all have similarities, differences and preferences. The children have been able to share their favourite animals, flavours of ice-cream and talk about who lives at home with them.

Our quote of the week

This week comes from Callum who built this wonderful structure with the 3D shapes. ‘This is Big Ben and that’s the Tower of London. Big Ben is taller than the Tower of London!’. You are absolutely right Callum!

Focus of the week

As the children continue to settle in Little Acorns and grow in confidence, we have been taking part in lots of activities centred around learning about and understanding themselves. This really helps them to makes sense of their feelings and emotions and fosters independence.

We made the most of the sunshine on Monday during Outdoor Learning and had a lovely walk up the road to Sevenoaks Common to see what Autumn treasures we could collect. The leaves, sticks and seed pods the children found were brought back to school ready to use in our self portraits! They were then given the opportunity to look in the mirror and study their features before recreating what they saw, using the natural materials. We think you will agree, the results are delightful!

Something to look forward to...

Next week we will be taking part in our first ICT lesson with Mr Coston and starting to explore more of our ‘finger gym’ activities.
