Little Acorns News 21.06.24

21st June 2024

Thank you to all those dad’s who came for breakfast last Friday, the children loved having you there and we hope you enjoyed it as much as they did.

What a fantastic week it has been in Little Acorns with our trip to Stonepitts Farm strawberry picking and Port Lympne Safari Park. The children did fantastically, sometimes it is easy to forget how young they are but they joined in, walked miles and showed amazing independence and resilience in unfamiliar surroundings. We are very proud of them all!

Book of the week

We have been reading the book ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ by Julia Donaldson which Mrs Koheji kindly introduced us to. It tells the story of little Shen who is given a magic paintbrush which brings to reality whatever she paints. However, she must keep her promise to paint things only for the poor and resist the requests of the emperor. A traditional tale, beautifully brought to life by the rhyming verse and evocative illustrations.

The story really captured the children’s imaginations and they set to work painting with renewed inspiration.

I asked them afterwards, what they would paint if they had a magic paintbrush. There were some fantastic suggestions, including a t-rex, a seal and mummy.

Our quote of the week

I asked the children what the best part of their trip to Port Lympne had been, here are some of the responses!

George - ‘I liked the gorillas, especially the baby, they were eating bananas!’

Ottilie ‘I liked the meerkats, they were very cute and they looked like they were doing an obstacle course.’

Alexander ‘The lions were my favourite, they were so big and yellow and their manes were orange.’

Sports day preparation

The children have been working very hard in preparation for Sports Day and this week we had some help from the Year 8 boys who were TA for the day. As you will see, the children are taking the concept of a sprint start very seriously, but we have also been working on the sack race, beanbag throwing and the relay race, featuring vibranium batons...!

Something to look forward to...

We are very excited about Moon Camp week and the visit from the travelling planetarium on Tuesday.
