'The more that you read, the more things that you'll know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go!' Dr Seuss

Congratulations!

Well done to Alex, Elisabetta and Harriet who have all produced some amazing independent projects on this term's topic ‘the Moon’ and received their Headmistress Awards from Mrs McClure.

Book of the week

This week we have been looking at lots of books and stories from around the world, including ‘Maps’, which the children have loved looking at independently and spotting all the food, flags, animals and features which make each country so special. We have also been looking at describing during story time, inviting the children to describe a page of the book. It is a great way to check their understanding and is a key literacy skill in the build up to comprehension.

Our quote of the week

This week comes from Helena, who drew a beautiful picture of a house with lots of happy faces inside. ‘We are all happy because the rainbow is coming out!’.

Focus of the week - Around the World!

We have had such an exciting week introducing and getting stuck into our new topic ‘Around the World’. It really seems to have captured the children’s imaginations and their enthusiasm has been delightful to witness. They started the week by filling in the details and drawing the picture on their very own passports. This meant they were ready to head off to their first destination, Italy! Clearly Italian food has been a popular topic of conversation so we decided to make a tally chat of everyone’s favourite pizza topping! We have been counting in italian and the children loved zooming in on Mount Vesuvius and other famous landmarks on Google Earth. The highlight though has to have been using the VR headsets to take a tour of Rome, the awe and wonder in their reactions was very special to see!

Something to look forward to...

As part of our new topic and focus on Italy, we will be making pizzas, buon appetito!
