The above article appeared in this week's Sevenoaks Chronicle about our latest decision to accept girls from January 2024.
After 75 years as a school for boys, Solefield School, the award-winning independent school in the heart of Sevenoaks, is to accept girls from January 2024. Initially girls will join classes in Reception through to Year 3, and later up to Year 8.
The decision follows the successful establishment of Solefield’s co-ed pre-school, mixed in-house holiday camps and requests from local families.
Head Teacher Mrs Helen McClure said: “At Solefield, every pupil is known and no one is ever overlooked. Our lessons are tailored to the individual pupil and delivered by dedicated, caring, subject specialists. Our school will remain small and nurturing whilst achieving outstanding academic results. We know that happy children thrive and we work in partnership with parents with the pupils at the heart of all we do.
“From January 2024 both boys and girls will benefit from Solefield’s small classes and personalised curriculum. With a pass rate of more than 95% at 11+, excellent results at 13+ and outstanding track record of pupils receiving scholarships for senior school, pupils flourish academically and out of the classroom. We look forward to pupils of both sexes enjoying our stimulating and enriching timetable full of chess, sport, thinking skills, judo, swimming debating, performing arts alongside the very best pastoral care including bespoke wellbeing lessons, talk time, Lego and art therapy and fully trained wellbeing dogs. After 75 years of education excellence, I am delighted that Solefield is to welcome girls as well as boys to become high-achieving, kind, resilient adults with a true love of learning.”
