Diversity Week began with our student Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) committee presenting a special assembly to the rest of the school. Their message was "we are all different and unique and special and this is something to be celebrated."
This week students have been completing drawings which show their cultural heritage as well as their unique strengths and interests. These individual works are being put together to create one whole school artwork to showcase and celebrate the cultural, racial and ethnic diversity of our school community.
We are becoming an increasingly diverse and international school with approximately 30% of pupils having at least one non-British parent or coming from an ethnic minority and nearly 20% of our pupils speaking a language in addition to English at home; Students have also been learning about diversity in their lessons. For example, pre-prep have been writing diversity poems and year 7 have been discussing diversity and inclusion in Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).
The EDI committee are also putting together a Solefield cookbook, which will include recipes shared by Solefield families. By collecting recipes, we hope to enable sharing of family and cultural traditions within our community as a way to enrich and enable diverse and inspiring discussions about regional customs, holidays and cooking philosophies. We are also proud to be launching our new house, named after Dame Kelly Holmes, a very local inspiration and chosen by one of our pupils, in September.

Mrs Koheji has already received some delicious sounding recipes (which she can't wait to try out herself!) If you would like to share a recipe to be included in the book, please continue to email Mrs Koheji by Wednesday 5th July.
