Year 7 travelled to Snowdonia for the first Solefield residential trip of the year and had a fantastic time!
Tying in with our Green Week at school, the boys visited the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, where they learnt about alternative solutions for building, energy production, gardening and food. They also participated in a wind turbine workshop, which they enjoyed a great deal. The water powered carriages give everyone an interesting and exciting way of getting to and from the Centre, which is situated at the top of a steep hill!
The boys also enjoyed their underground tour of the Llechwedd slate mine where they learnt about the history of the slate industry. It was particularly interesting for them to learn about the jobs that young boys would have been expected to do deep underground.
The Youth Hostel in LLanberis was a perfect setting for the boys to unwind, amidst the mountains and fields of this beautiful area. They enjoyed each other’s company, especially in the evenings when they were able to have some free time to relax after their busy days. The huge breakfasts were also greatly appreciated.
Other favourite experiences for the boys included playing football on the beach in Barmouth, eating fish and chips in a local café and sampling some delicious ice cream from an ice cream parlour in Beddgelert.
