There have been two chess events this week with the Year 3&4s heading to Radnor House on Tuesday for a joint informal chess session.
Although this was not a formal competition, the boys played really well and for several it was their first time representing the school at chess. Particular recognition should go to Louis P (Y4) who played on board 1, getting a draw from a much more experienced player. Also to the Year 3 students in attendance who only started learning the rules of chess in September.
Alumni Chess Event
The Alumni chess event on Wednesday was well attended and it was great to welcome back previous students and play some games. The standard of chess was very high and it was clear that many Solefield boys are continuing to play keenly after leaving. Our Judo coach Mr Burkett was also in attendance with his hand carved chess set which impressed the group and was a lovely talking point. The event was overwhelmingly positive and as such we would very much like to run it again next year.
