The eco committee give their top ten tips for an more eco-friendly family Christmas, following their meeting this week:
- Consider using battery Christmas lights to save electricity or make sure you only switch them on when needed.
- Only use non-metallic wrapping paper. Wrapping paper with metallic designs or glitter cannot be recycled.
- Make your own wrapping paper from recycled paper or try to save some larger pieces of Christmas wrapping paper to reuse next year.
- Try not to buy presents with plastic packaging.
- Consider buying Christmas presents from local businesses rather than doing online shopping. Local businesses need our support. Online shopping increases our carbon footprint.
- Buy recyclable Christmas crackers or make your own!
- Don't overbuy - just buy what you need.
- Try not to waste food at Christmas - use it all up by having leftovers the next day.
- Try to compost vegetable peelings.
- If you have enough, try to donate to our local foodbanks. There will be families in great need of support this Christmas.
