Eco Committee Top Tips

Mrs Shanmuganathan, Head of TPR

2nd December 2022

The eco committee give their top ten tips for an more eco-friendly family Christmas, following their meeting this week:

  1. Consider using battery Christmas lights to save electricity or make sure you only switch them on when needed.
  2. Only use non-metallic wrapping paper.  Wrapping paper with metallic designs or glitter cannot be recycled.
  3. Make your own wrapping paper from recycled paper or try to save some larger pieces of Christmas wrapping paper to reuse next year.
  4. Try not to buy presents with plastic packaging.
  5. Consider buying Christmas presents from local businesses rather than doing online shopping.  Local businesses need our support.  Online shopping increases our carbon footprint.
  6. Buy recyclable Christmas crackers or make your own!
  7. Don't overbuy - just buy what you need.
  8. Try not to waste food at Christmas - use it all up by having leftovers the next day.
  9. Try to compost vegetable peelings.
  10. If you have enough, try to donate to our local foodbanks.  There will be families in great need of support this Christmas.
