As part of Dyslexia Awareness Week the school took part in No Pens Wednesday. The purpose of No Pens Day is to enable all children and adults to engage in activities that do not require writing and to explore other ways of showing knowledge and learning.
The boys all enjoyed a range of activities across different subjects.
- Reception enjoyed using coloured sand trays to practise letter formation.
- Year 1 had fun making 2D shapes in Maths using playdough.
- Year 2 enjoyed some creative storytelling based on pictures that they drew, like Aaron Slater in the book, Aaron Slater Illustrator. (Thank you to Edward in Year 1 who brought in this book to share with us and inspired us to buy a copy for the library!)
- Year 3 played Plickers to reinforce vocabulary in French.
- Year 4 worked in teams to play a maths dominoes game.
- Year 5 played a loop card game learning about new prefixes.
- Year 6 had to fit together the tectonic plates in Geography to build up the world map.
- Year 7 made PowerPoint presentations in History about the Transport Revolution.
- Year 8 took part in '8C's Got Talent', where they were judging anonymised pieces of writing looking at how the dialogue was used in order to convey character and advance the action in their fictional writing.
The boys also found out more about the value of dyslexic thinking and reasons why dyslexics can make top spies, powerful change-makers, great entrepreneurs, skilled communicators, brilliant imaginers and unstoppable sports champions!
