STEM Week at Solefield

Mr Budden, Director of STEM, Assistant Head

11th March 2022

What a brilliant STEM week we have at Solefield. It started with a whole school Engineering assembly from guest speaker Mark Hiller, which the boys found very inspiring.

Mark then led a meteorite workshop for Years 5 & 6. Year 5 also enjoyed a Lego activity in French, making items such as a beret, baguette, mini flag, a patisserie and even an escargot (snail)! Year 8 went to a talk at Sevenoaks School on aeronautical engineering and throughout the week, the Year 8s led STEM based activities for all the other year groups, from Reception through to Year 7. Years 5 and 7 also enjoyed workshops at Sevenoaks School.

Pre-Prep enjoyed exciting activities and each day tried out various experiments, such as, 'How does the digestive system work?' and Year 1 enjoyed finding out about how water cycles work.

The week was finished off with a Year 7 & 8 STEM Fair, which every year group visited throughout the day. What a fantastic hands-on week!
