It is clear Richard (2G) not only has a love of chess, but it is something he is showing an advanced ability in for his age. As a result, he was invited to play in our 'Advanced After School Chess Club' for Years 3-7.
Mr Emms, chess club coach and 'Chess Grandmaster' said, "Richard joined the after-school chess club very recently, but it’s already clear to me that he recognises chess patterns and tactics especially easily for someone of his age. Richard has certainly given the chess club a boost. The older boys have really taken to him and seem to be inspired by his ability! It will be fascinating to see how Richard progresses in the future. He qualified to play in the London Junior (Under-8) Chess Championship, held in October and came joint first (second on tiebreak) with five wins from six games."
Richard also played Mr Fenning in chess, with Richard taking the win. Mr Fenning said, "He's good! I'm not so keen on playing him again."
Richard said, "My granny first showed me chess when I was 2 years old. I have positions I can use to beat my parents. I also know how to set the chess board up, because I am no longer a beginner."
Well done Richard, we look forward to keenly watching your chess journey. The boys who attend the Advanced Chess Coaching Club will be resuming their matches against other schools, starting with Russell House next term.
