Students in all age groups celebrated National Poetry Day this Thursday. Pre-prep (Rec-Year 2) joined in with Mrs Snow’s poetry reading of some poems, Year 3 enjoyed having Mr Henry read an entertaining poem about Billy’s Bath and Year 4 enjoyed a Poetry Carousel with Mrs Rogan. Year 5 have explored the father/son theme in Roger McGough’s ‘Railings’ and Year 6 enjoyed doing a roleplay before embarking on Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poems about mermaids and mermen. Year 7 are studying Gothic literature this term so did a dramatic reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’. And Year 8 managed to memorise Robert Frost’s ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’. It is lovely to see the boys enjoying poetry and to witness the older boys tackle some challenging literature.
