Head of Drama & Year 1 Teacher
What did you do before coming to Solefield? Before I worked at Solefield I worked at Costa Coffee as a barista. I worked with all of my school friends which made it a very fun job!
Tell us about your different roles at school. I am the Year 1 teacher - which I love. Year 1 is such an exciting year. The boys flourish and really come into their own both academically and socially. I am also Head of Drama, which is such a rewarding role. The boys at Solefield have such a talent for the dramatic arts and I love being there to witness these performances.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to keep busy! I enjoy cooking and spending time baking and decorating cakes. I also love music. I listen to music all the time and I love to sing along (whether I know the words or not!). I have recently started climbing in my spare time. This is a really challenging sport which I find demanding physically and mentally.
What inspired you to become a teacher? I actually found things at school quite tricky and used to get terribly worried about some subjects. I remember one teacher at my secondary school who made me look at my learning from a different point of view and made school a much happier place for me. I think that made me realise that I would like to help children feel safe and secure about their learning, which is why I took the route into teaching.
What are you currently working on as Head of Drama? Mr Fenning and I are very busy working with the Year 6 boys on their upcoming performance of 'Oliver Jr'. This is our first performance to a live audience since December 2019! We are also working on the Year 8 Leavers' performance which they will be performing at the end of term.
What inspires you about Drama? I love the escape that drama and especially musical theatre can bring! I really enjoy performing myself and have been in a variety of performances at The Stag Theatre with the amateur dramatic group, 'The Sevenoaks Players'. I have seen how the drama at Solefield School can provide boys with the opportunity to shine.
What is your favourite food and why? Well, my Year 1 boys know my favourite food to eat is chocolate and it must be eaten in my pyjamas during the half term! However, I also enjoy spicy food, especially Thai food.
